What is the Gulf Conformity Mark (G Mark) for low-voltage electrical appliances?
The Gulf Conformity Mark, adopted by the Board of Directors of the Organization in its 10th meeting (Muscat, May 24, 2009), is one of the main tools to reduce technical barriers to trade and to facilitate the free movement of goods across the borders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. It is a mark (not a quality mark) that indicates products’ compliance, at least, with the essential requirements related to health, safety, and the environment.
Placing the Gulf Conformity Mark is mandatory for product categories subject to GCC technical regulations for conformity verification. Among the first of these categories were toys and low-voltage electrical appliances. The GCC technical regulations define the conformity assessment procedures, which are carried out either by the manufacturer or by accepted Notified Bodies as a third party authorized to perform the conformity assessment procedures referred to in the regulations for each product category.
The Gulf Conformity Mark (G Mark) is therefore a mandatory mark that shows that the product complies with GCC technical regulations and standards, and that it has passed all required safety and quality tests. The purpose of this mark is to protect consumers from potential risks and to ensure the circulation of safe products in the Gulf market.

Low voltage electrical equipment and household appliances:
Electrical equipment means all electrical and electronic devices, appliances, and equipment that contain electrical and/or electronic components designed for use with a voltage rating between 50 and 1000 volts for alternating current (AC), and between 75 and 1500 volts for direct current (DC), as well as the electrical equipment and phenomena listed in
Annex No. 2.
Thirteen categories of the following electrical appliances and equipment are subject to the conformity assessment process referred to in Annex (4) of the technical regulation, and require a Gulf Conformity Certificate from a recognized body:
- Electric fans
- Refrigerators, freezers, and other cooling or freezing equipment [up to 30 cubic feet = 850 liters]
- Centrifugal clothes dryers and washing machines, including combined washer-dryers [up to 12 kg]
- Food grinders and mixers, fruit or vegetable juice extractors
- Toasters
- Electro-thermal hair dryers and hand dryers
- Household electric heaters
- Microwave ovens
- Other ovens; cookers, cooking tops, boiling rings, grills, and roasters
- Instant and immersion-type electric water heaters and storage water heaters [up to 200 liters]
- Irons and hair straighteners
- Plugs, socket outlets, adapters, extension sets, and chargers
- Air conditioners
And all electronic equipment operating within the specified voltage range (50–1000 volts AC, 75–1500 volts DC) falls under this scope.
In addition, 10 new products were introduced on January 31, 2024, by the Board of Directors of the Organization, covering the following products:

1-Product information:
- Product name and model number.
- Manufacturer and brand name.
- Batch number or serial number.
2-Test specifications:
- Type of tests performed (electrical safety, EMC, energy efficiency).
- International or Gulf reference technical standards and specifications.
- The voltage, current, and frequency range over which the test is being conducted.
3-Test results:
- Measured values compared to permissible limits according to technical specifications.
- Details of any deviations or non-conformities, if any.
4-Accredited laboratory:
- Name of the laboratory and its accreditation certificates.
- Signature of the competent engineer or technical official.
